Geology Overview
Geology is the study of the Earth, how it was formed, and how it continues to change. Major topics in geology include plate tectonics, theories on the early Earth and its origin, climate change, rocks andminerals, carbon dating, and fossils.
Geology in the Classroom
Geology, and its basic principles, is taught at a variety of educational levels. Students generally encounter concepts of geology and earth science in elementary school. Those basic concepts are built upon in general science classes in middle school and will again be revisited in high school earth science classes.
