About Me

I believe every student can learn and I am always willing to come up with creative ways to help grasp the subject matter. Over the past 35 years, I have taught various subjects (including music) to students of all ages .

Education

Bellarmine University Graduated 1989 with BA in Music. Attended Penn State University 1989-1990 and University of Louisville 1990-1991 to pursue a teaching certification and move towards a MAT. Coursework towards certification was completed but had to stop student teaching due to finances.

Teaching Experience

As a teacher of ages 3-90+, my responsibilities have included selecting, planning, and implementing age and skills appropriate curriculum and multimedia support resources. Daily and unit lesson plans, aligned with the National Arts Standards, are created and implemented regularly. Regular Performance and Test/Assessment preparation and administration including: tri-weekly narratives; on-going formative assessments; daily, weekly, and semester online grades and report cards; and parent/teacher/student conferences are also requisites. In addition, I have been responsible for operating and maintaining an electronic piano laboratory and iPads; performance coordination and program creation; managing attendance and billing records; teaching classes in lieu of the regular teacher (band, violin, handbells, choir, drama); instructing my classes and private students on the piano, violin, viola, dulcimer, recorder, and music theory. Multidisciplinary Arts: themed arts camps which included the four arts disciplines of music, visual arts, dance, and drama for ages 3-8. I lead the music classes (solely) and partnered with my colleague to teach drama, music, art, and dance. Camps had enrollments up to 25 different students per week. Each week’s focus had a different theme and concluded with the students giving a performance showcase for their parents and guests. I coordinated and taught these camps at Sacred Heart School for the Arts, 2008-2018. As a licensed substitute teacher for Kelly Educational Services, I was responsible for conducting all classes (K-12) in the absence of the regular teacher. I served on short notice and taught all subjects and grade levels, including special education. As the Accreditation Chairperson, my responsibilities included creating data devices; editing and authoring curriculum; writing and editing the executive accreditation documentation for the school; coaching the faculty throughout the accreditation process; thoroughly comprehending, using and helping others to use the National Arts Standards; presentation of the final documentation and spokesperson during accrediting agency site visits. I home schooled my eldest daughter for a year. My youngest daughter (who has a reading comprehension difficulty) benefited from my constant tutoring from grades K-12 and a bit in college. For many years, I have taught private music students at my home studio. Currently, all lessons are via Zoom due to the Coronavirus.
