About Me
I love teaching and tutoring because I love to see students progress, change and grow! I make learning productive, meaningful, and fun! I have a dance background and incorporate the arts (theatre, movement, music, visual arts) into all of my teachings and tutoring.
Education
I began my undergraduate work at Duke University but transferred to Adelphi University in order to major in dance. I received my BA in Dance in 1776. I received my American Studies MA from the City of New York Graduate Center in 1987. I am certified in Orton Gillingham's method for teaching dyslexic students with reading, writing and spelling difficulties. I am also certified in ESL and have had extensive experience working with students for whom English is not their first language. I hold a certificate in Gifted/Talented Education and Supervision.
Teaching Experience
I have taught for over 30 years. I began teaching dance and creative movement in private schools (Bank Street School, Columbia University PreK, and the International School in NYC). I then changed to teach in NYC and Teaneck, NJ public schools where I have taught PreK-4th grade elementary grades and 9-12 grade social studies. I have tutored extensively during the past 5 years and am very familiar with using Zoom and Google Classroom.
Interests
I am an avid swimmer (7 days/week for 45 minutes), walker (30 minutes), and ballet barre/pilate fitness person! I have a large flower garden and love working in it. I also read and listen to the news with my husband non-stop! Before the pandemic, I traveled to Mexico a lot!
I love teaching and explaining science at every level!
