About Me
Hi, I’m Simon! I’m a Georgetown graduate, senior software engineer, researcher, and experienced tutor based in New York. I studied Finance and Operations & Information Management at Georgetown, where I graduated cum laude, and I’ve also completed post-baccalaureate coursework in psychology and statistics. My academic background is broad, but what I enjoy most is helping students make difficult subjects feel clearer, more manageable, and less intimidating. I’ve worked with students in a variety of settings. In college, I tutored high school students in math and English through the DC Schools Project. I also spent a summer as a Business Management instructor and residential advisor at Exploration Summer Programs, where I taught high school students and supported a dorm of tenth-grade boys living on Yale’s Old Campus. Since then, I’ve continued teaching and mentoring in professional settings as a senior software engineer, coaching junior developers, leading technical discussions, and helping people work through complex problems step by step. I’m comfortable supporting students in SAT preparation, writing, AP U.S. History, algebra, statistics, psychology, JavaScript, Python, and general study skills. My style is patient, structured, and encouraging. I like to figure out where a student is getting stuck, break the material into clear pieces, and build repeatable strategies they can use on their own. I believe students do best when they feel respected, challenged, and supported — and when they leave a session not just with the right answer, but with a better understanding of how to approach the next problem. Outside of tutoring, I’m interested in music, psychology, meditation, technology, and exploring New York City. I try to bring curiosity, humor, and calm focus into my sessions, and I genuinely enjoy helping students grow more confident in themselves as learners.
Education
I graduated cum laude from Georgetown University with degrees in Finance and Operations & Information Management in 2019. Recently, I completed post-baccalaureate coursework in Statistics and Psychology at Brooklyn College.
Teaching Experience
While I have not spent my entire career as an educator, teaching and mentorship remain recurring pieces of my journey. In college, I tutored high school students in math and English through the DC Schools Project. During the summers, I worked as an instructor and residential advisor at Exploration Summer Programs; I taught Business Management to high school students and supported a dorm of tenth-grade boys living on Yale’s Old Campus. More recently, as a senior software engineer, I mentored junior engineers and interviewed senior candidates, experiences that required clear communication, patience, judgment, and the ability to identify when and where someone’s understanding is breaking down.
Interests
When I’m not teaching, tutoring, or working, I’m usually reading, making music, running, or exploring New York City. I’m interested in psychology, history, technology, meditation, and the arts; I especially enjoy playing synthesizer, going to concerts, finding good coffee, and spending time with friends. I try to bring that same curiosity and energy into tutoring: I like learning how each student thinks and helping them find the approach that makes challenging material feel clear and manageable.
I love teaching and explaining science at every level!
