About Me

After exploring everything from genetics to business before finding my way to history, I've learned that the best learning happens when you follow your curiosity. I recently finished my BA in History with honors, studying the complex relationships between European colonists and Native peoples, and now I'm working on my graduate degree in archival science. Teaching has always been part of who I am - starting with helping my younger siblings and naturally extending to friends who know they can come to me when they're stuck on something. While I can get genuinely excited about sharing knowledge (sometimes to the point of over-enthusiasm!), my usual approach is patient and relaxed. I believe in creating a comfortable space where questions and confusion are just normal parts of learning. Outside of academics, you'll find me with my two kids exploring trails, kayaking, or identifying native plants. I also enjoy diving into genealogy research, working on web development projects, and helping friends troubleshoot various problems. I'm here to help you understand things in a way that makes sense to you, whether that takes one try or ten.

Education

I finished my BA in History (cum laude) in 2023 where I focused my studies on the political and interpersonal dynamics between European colonists and Native peoples, particularly in the borderlands of both New England and New Spain. My historical perspective is highly focused on the lived experiences and struggles of the common people. Upon graduating, I immediately applied to Simmons University and was delighted to be accepted to join the cohort, for which I was also granted a merit scholarship. Since Fall of 2023, I've been studying archival science, preservation management in particular, and information architecture/database management. I'm excited to be graduating next spring!

Teaching Experience

I think I was primed for teaching shortly after my 3 siblings began appearing. In our family, I was given the very traditional role taken by the eldest sister - taking the things my parents taught me, and instructing the others. Inevitably in any job I've held, training and "coaching" are naturally added to my duties. All of my friends have things they come to me to help them problem-solve and I appreciate, enjoy, and get a lot of strength from being able to do that. I really enjoy helping someone who wants to learn something, that's the whole reason I want to become a tutor, a teacher & a librarian.

Interests

I have 2 kids, a tween and a kindergartener so we spend all the sunny days out hiking trails, riding our kayaks, or floating the river. We like to identify the native plant life species and pull up the invasive english ivy that's strangling our forest. We love the desert and try to make it out there as much as we can.

I love teaching and explaining science at every level!
